“When you have someone in front of a mirror, it’s a great opportunity to help them feel self love.”

Darci Brown grew up watching several family members find success working in the Beauty business. Naturally she found herself in Beauty School at 18. She learned there she had a gift with styling hair. It didn’t take long before she had a full clientele.

When Darci was in her 20’s, she had her coming-of-age moment where she realized she had a lot to learn. She started her search for self-improvement. In return, she found solace in becoming more aware of the effect she could have on her own life as well as the lives of those she served in the salon. With her own new found self confidence, she could interact with her client on a very personal level. She soon realized that her passion is loving and serving people.

“When you have someone in front of a mirror it’s a great opportunity to help them feel self love,” she says. She strongly believes that this experience can improve self-esteem and change lives. Later in her career she found herself traveling and teaching at beauty schools all around the country. At this time Darci became aware of local Cosmetology graduates who had no plans to continue in the hair business, because of a lack of confidence or the skill level to work in the industry. That got Darci thinking that she wanted to help aspiring beauty school students have that confidence that launches them into a career in beauty. She wanted to open her own school, in her own state, in her own city.

So Esteem Academy of Beauty was born. Now, Darci is still doing what she loves: working with people in her own studio, as well as directing the operations in the Academy. The academy functions on the idea that beauty school starts with the student discovering their own “True Beauty”. There, every student gets individual attention, unlike other beauty schools that graduate hundreds of students at a time. Darci and her amazing staff get to focus on loving students one at a time at her school, which she describes as more of a boutique atmosphere.

She has hired an excellent team that is like-minded to her holistic approach. Every Tuesday, all the students and instructors meet together for a “serenity session.” It’s a moment of self reflection for the students, where they learn a life-skill set that, when applied, can propel them into success in all areas of their lives. They are taught about self-awareness, self-reflection, goals & visions, meditation & mindfulness, as well as the importance of movement. Darci has found healing and success herself in mastering these skills and leaves an indelible mark on her students who receive the same benefits. The result is the majority of her students go on to work in salons and make a difference in their community. She is so grateful for this opportunity.
